This picturesque place is closely connected with the French history, and no wonder it is called the "predecessor" of magnificent Versailles. There is nothing surprising in it, because by its beauty and grandeur, it really is not inferior to the residence of kings. But, unfortunately, this palace is not as well known as Versailles.

 Vaux-le-Vicomte and the park

If your choice of a place for spending holiday has fallen on an unforgettable country, France, you have probably looked through a lot of different proposals. There is a beautiful estate at a distance of 45 kilometers from Paris, not far from the city of Melun.

The estate was built by Nicholas Fouquet, the minister of finance, one of the richest people under Louis XV, what, naturally, made a contribution to its architectural ensemble.

As soon as you cross the threshold of the estate, you will catch the spirit of past centuries. You will see bedrooms, a dining room, a kitchen, a cellar, Fouquet's study, a ceremonial hall. Also there is a bell tower in the central part of the castle, which will conquer you at first sight. If you wish, you can rise and see all the picturesque views from the heights. In addition, it is impossible to pass by and not to be fascinated by the park – a sample of the French garden and park ensemble. It is a beautiful place to relax, where you can touch the past and feel as if you found yourself in the time when kings and ladies of the court walked through this park, examining figurately trimmed shrubs, fountains and statues. Also, you can visit the Museum of Carriages, which has collected a large number of carriages of the past centuries.

From March to the beginning of October, you can admire the beautiful fountains, which will surely enchant you at first sight. Also on Saturdays, from May to early October, the so-called "Evenings of candles" take place. At this time the park and the palace are lit up with an incredible amount of candles, and all this is accompanied by a performance of classical works. In addition, they arrange fireworks that allow plunging completely into the spirit of old France.

A professional guide will tell you everything about the history of the estate very accessibly and interestingly. There are also audio guides in English; they will allow you to take a tour of the most remarkable corners by yourself.

How to get there:

There are regular excursions from Paris to Vaux-le-Vicomte, or you can get there on your own. There are two ways: you can take the train, which departs from the Gare de Lyon, and get to Melun station, but it is not the final stop, you will have to go on traveling by special bus. But we advise you to pre-determine the route and plan it well. This way also can be overcome by car, if possible. From Paris, in the absence of traffic jams, it will take about 45 minutes.

There is a restaurant named “L'écureuil” on the territory of the estate, this place is a wonderful choice for those who wish to have a meal in the open air. Also, you can visit the bookstore and the souvenir shop, where you will always find something that will be sure to remind you of a wonderful trip.

It’s interesting that this palace is still owned by the family of the counts de Vogué. Vaux-le-Vicomte also was a place of filming a lot of movies such as "Angelica and the King," "King's Way," "Marie Antoinette" and many others.

The excursion to Vaux-le-Vicomte will be not just a good pastime; its wonderful views, beautiful architecture and magnificent park area will stick in your memory for ever. Be sure to visit the palace, and you will keep only the best memories about France.
