Almost every tourist begins his travel around France in Paris, with the inevitable visit to the Eiffel Tower. France has a rich history, and tourist destinations are various and interesting.

If you go from Paris to the south-west, passing the way of 25 kilometers, even being an experienced traveler you will be delighted by the luxury and grandeur of the Palace of Versailles. The largest palace in Europe was built in the Baroque style during the reign of Louis XIV. For more than two centuries, the walls of the Palace of Versailles witnessed the creation of French history, kings’ passions and intrigues. The greatness of the complex of Versailles delights.

On the west side of the palace there is a park, covering an area of about 900 hectares. The Park of Versailles contains a palace of pink marble named the Grand Trianon and a lot of fountains, and its alleys keep mysteries of court life. The Grand Canal, similar to a cross, 5570 meters long, is the magnificent decoration of the park.

The Hall of Mirrors is among the most famous halls of the palace. It is distinguished by the fact that there is an enormous mirror, which consists of twenty one fragments, opposite each of the seventeen windows. The Royal Opera of Versailles is considered one of the best European halls.

During the excursion, tourists like to visit the village of Marie Antoinette. It was built on the territory of the Park of Versailles in the style of the French heartland. Here the royals felt the atmosphere of rural life, grew vegetables and kept small farms.

The Palace of Grand Trianon was intended for recreation, so the king Louis XIV liked to retire from the hustle and bustle and royal affairs there. Soon the complex was supplemented with the Petit Trianon nearby.

The construction of the Palace of Versailles lasted for years, in several stages. Many talented and famous architects under the leadership of Louis Le Vaud and Mansart took part in the design and construction of the palace. This largely explains the variety of architectural solutions.

Throughout its history, Versailles witnessed not only the monarchs’ life, but also the events of wars and revolutions. During the excursion, the guide is sure to pay attention to the main stages of construction and the historical facts, connected with the palace.

The interior of the royal chambers reflects the grandeur of the power of monarchs. Versailles is not only the palace, it is a town that lived and continues living. It was there, over the years, that the history of France was created. Versailles was repeatedly captured and liberated. It suffered destructions by bombing during the Second World War. The whole complex is a world monument of architecture, which is under UNESCO protection. Versailles is visited by millions of tourists per year.

You should see the majestic architecture with your own eyes. You can plunge for several hours in the atmosphere of royal life and historical upheavals, including the Palace of Versailles in your travel itinerary.

A visit to the Palace of Versailles, including the way, takes about 5 hours. You can visit it by yourself, getting to your destination by train or bus. But in this case you risk to get lost in the huge mass of tourists, and not to see all the attractions of the palace complex.

The guides help the tourists to learn more interesting information during excursions. A narrative about the history of the Royal Palace in English will help the travelers to feel the atmosphere of the royal life of medieval France.
